Tai Chi

If you're looking for a way to leave your fast paced life behind and slow down to the pace of nature, consider Tai Chi or Qi Gon. Originally developed for self-defense, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions. Often described as meditation in motion, tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.

Tai chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing.

Tai chi, also called tai chi chuan, is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion.

Charlotte Mason has trained as a Tai Chi and Qi Gong teacher in the mountains of China to bring this amazing experience to the hills and water of the Lake District. To optimise the benefits of this practice it should be practised outdoors and you will have the choice of practicing by a river or lake. Practising by water really enhances the gentle flow of the movements. In rainy weather we bring the practice indoors and the set the space for a perfect healing ambiance.

“fun, relaxing and peaceful”

I thoroughly enjoy Charlotte’s Tai Chi classes. Since I have been attending her sessions I feel that my practice has really developed and Charlotte has deepened my awareness of how important correct breathing can be in improving my technique. The classes are so well organised and a good mix of Tai Chi and Qigong exercises. Charlotte is always full of encouragement and makes classes fun, relaxing and peaceful.

“classes are a delight and time always flies by”

Charlotte is clever and funny and warm-hearted and utterly generous with her time and expertise. Her classes are a delight and time always flies by.....she challenges us anew and refreshes what we have learned in a seamless way. She prompts us to practice and learn and research in such a gentle manner. Resources are abundant and easily accessed. She is extremely well organised and timely. Lockdown presented Charlotte and her Tai Chi groups with obvious difficulties but she skilfully and readily steered us through Zoom and small group meetings in the Park last summer...and frankly it has been a highlight.....true to her generous nature she has not charged us enough......and we are hugely indebted.

“feeling energised and centred”

The session was just what I needed on a cold frosty day. I could follow and learn the Qijong forms easily from Charlotte. She demonstrates and explains the movements so well, including talking about the related health benefits. The session was tailored to the season and to include my health needs and left me feeling energised and centred. Charlotte’s skills and knowledge are inspiring, she’s a great teacher.
